Playing outside as a child was my happy place, during the summer, my friends and I would run around the neighborhood inventing activities to keep us busy. Our birthday parties were always at home and normally outside. My daughter loves to be outside too, when it came time to plan a birthday party for my her, I needed something memorable. She was graduating high school and having a birthday on the same weekend.

When I was thinking of birthday party and graduation party ideas I came up with a winner! Part of our family participated in a Color Run the year prior and loved the experience. I wanted a fun activity that kids of all ages would enjoy, and a powder chalk party was just the ticket.
First, Invite your guests over with a colorful invitation and add details on what to wear.
Color Party Supplies
You can make colored powder like they did over at A Beautiful Mess. I didn’t have time for that, so I purchased the white t-shirts, powdered chalk, powdered chalk cannons in multiple colors and protective glasses. It only takes a few supplies to provide a TON of fun. The supplies needed are:
ONE – The Birando Color Powder Cannons came in a few different colors and filled with compressed air. Take the cap off, point them to the sky and twist the bottom of the cannon for a colorful explosion. Have the cannons go off at different times during the party for the most colorful effect.
TWO – Provide white t-shirts to your guests and asked that they arrive in clothes that can get dirty. Having a variety of t-shirt sizes is good. If you want only one size, make sure it is pretty roomy.
THREE – Safety glasses come in all shapes and sizes. I happen to love the Gateway Safety Glasses. They come in fun colors, which is a must for this festive occasion. These glasses worked perfectly for us.
FOUR – The best part of the party…the Holi Colored Powder!! You can buy the powder in little bags that you can rip open and shake in the air. If you have little kids over, help them by cutting open the packages ahead of time.
There is very little planning involved in the party besides gathering colorful food. Take a few baskets or buckets and pile in the powder packets, roll up the t-shirts, and collect the safety glasses for a beautiful display. The best part is that it couldn’t be easier to put together.
Color Party Food Ideas
Make the food and desserts super colorful to add to the festive theme. A rainbow cake stuffed with candy in the middle is perfect for a secret surprise. Color popcorn with Wilton Color Mist for a quick party snack. Be creative, there are lots of recipes out there to explore but here are a few if you need ideas:
- Rainbow Fruit Skewers – get the kids involved in preparing these healthy snacks.
- Who wouldn’t love to play with these Rainbow Noodles? Check out how easy they are to color.
- Take a tortilla and make a Rainbow Veggie Roll up all kids would love.
Once you have the party set up, turn on some party tunes and let the kids go crazy.
This Color powder party is the perfect way to create some summertime fun. Invite your friends over, spend some quality time outdoors and create memories that will last a lifetime. It’s guaranteed to be a hit with kids of all ages!
How To Dust Yourself Off After A Color Powder Party
Finally, the perfect way to get the majority of the powder off is to use an air compressor and blow it off. You could also use a leave blower. I promise kids will love it!
**If any guest has repository issues, it is best they sit out and watch** The powder is colored cornstarch or rice flour and makes a colored mist in the air.**
