It’s that time! “You’ve Been Booed” signs are popping up from house to house. What is this Halloween tradition? In Texas, Booing is a big deal. At least in my area. Sometimes it is called “Ghosting” or “The Phantom,” much like having a “Secret Santa.” It’s October, welcome to Halloween Booing!
This tradition takes place mainly in neighborhoods but also in the workplace. Boo-ing is a friendly Halloween activity of leaving a basket of goodies with a BOO Poem, and We’ve Been Boo’ed sign on a neighbor’s door. Ring the bell and RUN. The fun is trying not to get caught.
Unless you’re like my friend, who will walk the neighborhood and hunt you down. 🙂 Ok…I am terrible at hiding and can’t stop laughing when we Boo people. So we get caught almost every year. This job is perfect for kids who are quick on their feet.
The person who is Boo’ed is asked to Boo others to keep the tradition going.
Kids LOVE to get Boo’ed. The anticipation leading up to Halloween is exciting and getting Boo’ed just adds to the Halloween festivities.
There are many ways to Boo someone. You don’t have to Boo only families with kids. Anyone would enjoy a Boo basket.
How to Boo Someone?
Here is my free printable “You’ve Been Boo’ed!” Print, cut out the two cards, assemble a basket of goodies and deliver your basket on a special person’s porch.
How To Make Your Own Mummy Bucket
Bucket or Basket
White paper streamer
Tape runner or double sided tape
Two googly eyes
Glue pop dots
Assembly takes 3 minutes!! So easy to dress up a bucket or basket to make it look like a mummy.
Step 1: With a tape runner or double sided tape, but the adhesive strips around 5″ long all around the bucket, so the streamer has a place to stick too.
Step 2: Start with paper streamer at the bottom and wrap around the bucket, from top to bottom and diagonal, as many times as you like to get the “Mummy” look.
Step 3: Tear off the steamer when you are done covering the bucket and put adhesive on the back side end of streamer and smooth down on the bucket.
Step 4: Attach the googly eyes with double-sided tape or glue dots.
Step 5: Fill the bucket with goodies, You’ve Been Boo’ed sign and deliver to a neighbors door!
