Summer has only been in session for a few weeks, and already the boredom of being home all the time is getting to one of my kids. She loves to go, go, go. I am encouraging her to slow down, grab a good book and lose yourself in the adventure of summer reading.
In fact, I created a summer reading log so she could keep track of her books she completes as well as a punch card and I am sharing them with YOU!! How fun is that!!
Need a little reading inspiration? Here is a list of our families favorite books:
- Charlotte’s Web
- Where the Wild Things Are
- A Wrinkle in Time
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar
- Harry Potter
- The Giving Tree
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Anne of Green Gables
- Where the Sidewalk Ends
With the long lazy days of summer, reading is the perfect pastime. There are so many adventures you can go on while staying at home just by grabbing a good book and see where it takes you.
Go to your local library and see what Summer Reading programs are available? There are usually bookclubs, reading activities and even weekly events that are focused on a theme to celebrate all the amazing stories that await you.
Are your kids not into reading? Grab an egg timer and start with a small amount of time, maybe 5 minutes. Have them read the allotted time and each day add a minute to build up their reading skills. Summer will be over before you know it and in our area having a reading log and keeping track of minutes read is a summer request from the teachers and schools. What tips and tricks do you have to keep your kiddos engaged in summer reading? I know, it can be difficult when the sun is shining and there are always kids ringing your doorbell wanting to play.
Invite them in and start your own neighborhood book club! How fun would that be!
